PhD candidate to study radiation damage and recovery in ion irradiated tungsten

The successful candidate will work towards a PhD participating in an interdisciplinary research group consisting of scientists from some of the largest European Research Centres and Universities who with pioneering research aim to make reality the production of Energy from Fusion (https://www.euro-fusion.org/). The specific task of the candidate will be to study radiation damage and recovery in ion irradiated tungsten (W), a material of key importance for the realization of fusion energy. The work will be conducted at NCSR “Demokritos”, Athens, Greece and the PhD will be awarded by a closely affiliated Academic institution.

Qualifications

  • MSc or equivalent degree in experimental physics, preferably with a background in materials or nuclear physics
  • Experience in the relevant experimental techniques such as materials characterization, electrical measurements, ion accelerators
  • Very good knowledge of English, both written and oral
